A GROUP EXHIBITION FEATURING ARTISTS FROM 4TH & 5TH GRADES AT FLOWERY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL / una exhibición en groupo de los estudiantes de los grados 4 y 5 de primaria flowery

FLOWERY FREESTYLE
The artworks in this exhibition were not only inspired by artists from around the world and throughout time, but by students’ own lives and imaginations. We met virtually for eight consecutive weeks to observe and discuss the lives, processes, and works of various artists including: Alma Thomas, Juan Hinojosa, Dora Maar, Loretta Lomanto, Atiya Jones, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Marc Bradford, and Frida Kahlo.
Together, we learned about a variety of different materials and techniques, including painting, drawing, and collage. We also explored the use of found objects from around the home to create dimensional, mixed-media artworks. In each class, we would spend about twenty minutes creating art together while listening to music. Sometimes, students were inspired by the artist or process we had just discussed. Other times, they chose to create artwork inspired by whatever thoughts, dreams, or emotions they had arrived with that day.
The title for this exhibition, Flowery Freestyle, describes the sense of freedom, calm, and inspiration we felt while making art together this year.

Las obras de arte en esta exhibición fueron no solo inspiradas en artistas de todo el mundo y a través del tiempo, sino por las vidas propias de los estudiantes y sus imaginaciones. Nos encontramos virtualmente por ocho semanas consecutivas para observar y discutir las vidas, procesos, y obras de varios artistas incluyendo: Alma Thomas, Juan Hinojosa, Dora Maar, Loretta Lomanto, Atiya Jones, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Bradford, y Frida Kahlo.
Juntos, aprendimos una variedad de diferentes materiales y técnicas, incluyendo pintura, dibujo, y collage. También exploramos el uso de objetos encontrados alrededor de la casa para crear obras de arte dimensionales, de medios mixtos. En cada clase gastamos cerca de veinte minutos creando arte juntos mientras escuchábamos música. A veces, los estudiantes se inspiraron en el artista o procesos que acabábamos de platicar. Otras veces, escogieron crear arte inspirado por pensamientos, sueños, o emociones que habían surgido ese día.

El título para esta exhibición, Flowery Freestyle, describe el sentido de libertad, calma, e inspiración que sentimos mientras hacíamos arte juntos este año.
